J.T. Realmuto’s late-season hot streaks a good sign as Phillies contemplate his future

PHILADELPHIA – J.T. Realmuto is once again hot at the right time.

The Phillies catcher is batting .346 with a .968 OPS since July 1. Among major league hitters with at least 100 plate appearances in that span, Realmuto is sixth in batting average.

The home run output this year is down thanks to a 42-game homerless drought from May to July, but the balls that are going over the wall are coming in big spots late in games against high leverage relievers.

His home run on July 23 against the Red Sox that tied the game in the eighth was off of Aroldis Chapman.
