Howie Kendrick, briefly a Phillie, announces retirement

After 15 major league seasons, veteran infielder/outfielder Howie Kendrick announced Monday that he’s retiring from major league baseball.

Kendrick concluded a lengthy Instagram post by saying “it’s time to drop the mic and enter a new stage of my life.”

Over the course of a decade and a half in the sport, Kendrick slashed .294/.337/.430 with 1,747 hits, 127 stolen bases and 724 RBIs.

The first nine years of his career were spent with the Los Angeles Angels, the team who selected him with the 10th round of the 2002 MLB Draft.

In December of 2014, Kendrick was traded to the Dodgers.
