How much do you think having zero run support affects a pitcher?

Related Topics: Aaron Nola

Last night was a decent start from Aaron Nola. but it fell under the same category as a lot of his starts this season. Once again, he had to pitch with his offense seemingly not interested in helping him at all. He has fallen prey to something that feels like happens to the same pitcher each year. Sometimes it’s Nola, sometimes it’s Zack Wheeler: the offense offers very little run support to help the starting pitcher on the mound.

Purely anecdotal, of course. The team is scoring at least some runs for him, last night notwithstanding, but it does sometimes feel like when Nola is on the mound, he knows he has to do a lot for himself to keep the game close, which leads to unforced errors that compound and make a game worse.
