Giants trade former Phillie Luke Williams to NL East rival

Former Phillie Luke Williams, who was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants on May 21, has been traded to the Miami Marlins.

In eight games with San Francisco, Williams went 3-for-12 with a double and three RBIs. Most of his time in the Giants organization was spent at Triple-A Sacramento, where he posted a .901 OPS in 41 plate appearances.

The versatile Williams, who was DFA’d by the Phillies after the Nick Castellanos signing, slashed .245/.315/.316 with one home run and six RBIs last season for the Phillies. That one home run, however, was a pretty memorable one:

He’ll head to a Marlins team that knows how to play well against the Phillies, so it’s reasonable to fully expect that Williams will come up with a clutch hit against his former team at some point this season.
