WASHINGTON — Just a few short moments before the Phillies were set to begin game two of a scheduled doubleheader against the Nationals in Washington, the game was postponed due to impending inclement weather.
As of pregame, the heavy rain had yet to arrive. Fans were still coming through the gate even after the game had been called.
The Phillies were scheduled to send Noah Syndergaard to the mound. Instead, he will pitch game two of tomorrow’s doubleheader. Kyle Gibson will start game one.
As Matt Gelb of The Athletic reported, the Phillies preferred to play a traditional doubleheader, but the Nationals wanted a split.
