Former Phillies righty signs in KBO after underwhelming post-trade audition

The Philadelphia Phillies have seen many of their former players head overseas in recent years searching for the opportunity to resurrect their careers. More notably, recent Phillies such as Yunior Marte and Jake Cave have found some success since moving to Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), respectively.

Another former Phillies player appears to be following a similar route this offseason as right-hander Matt Manning signed a one-year, $1 million contract to join the Samsung Lions of the KBO for the 2026 season. Manning was acquired by the Phillies from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for outfielder Josueth Quinonez this past trade deadline after he was designated for assignment by Detroit in late July.
