Former Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. made a cameo on ABC’s Jenkintown-set The Goldbergs on Wednesday, portraying his own late father, Ruben Amaro, Sr., who passed away last year.
Amaro, Jr., now a first base coach for the New York Mets, appears on the 1980s-set show only briefly, during which he is turned down as a chaperone for a class ski trip. Dejected, Amaro, Jr.-as-Amaro, Sr. responds that his son “loves that trip,” and is told to sit down.
The Goldbergs, fans, however, know that this isn’t the first shoutout to the Amaros.
