Former Phillies fan favorite Jean Segura retires

Former Phillies fan favorite Jean Segura has called it a career, his agency, CAA Sports, announced on its Instagram on Wednesday.

Segura spent the 2019-22 seasons with the Phillies, beginning his tenure via the J.P. Crawford trade with Seattle and capping it off with his first and only career playoff run.

He quickly enamored himself among the fanbase, a sentiment that grew across four mostly productive years in Philadelphia. He hit .281 with a .755 OPS and strong defense at second base.

His legend grew in October, less for overall production than for a few moments etched into the lore of those drought-breaking, Cinderella Phillies.
