For Aaron Nola, is April the new Spring Training?

Aaron Nola pitched a gem on Sunday night. He allowed just one run in seven innings, and better defense behind him might have prevented even that one run from scoring. He’s still 0-5 on the season, and while that poor record is partly due to a lack of run support, it’s hard to deny that Nola has pitched poorly for most of the season.

The velocity on Nola’s pitches has been down throughout most of his early season starts. While he has never been a high velocity guy, he wasn’t getting much higher than 91 with his fastball which is a tough way for a pitcher to thrive these days.
