Despite diminished velocity, Zack Wheeler gets results and win as Phillies sweep Rangers

Zack Wheeler’s 83rd pitch on Sunday at Globe Life Field was an 84.3 mph splitter to Marcus Semien. It was Wheeler’s last. The right-hander’s afternoon was complete after getting Semien to ground out to end the fifth inning.

The Phillies would eventually pick up a 4-2 win over the Rangers, giving them their first sweep since June. Wheeler was the winning pitcher. The Phillies’ ace got results. But they came with diminished velocity and a continued lack of command.

The fifth was a five-pitch frame for Wheeler. He threw three fastballs. None touched 94 mph. His hardest was a 93.
