Cubs Hall of Famer, former Phillie Ryne Sandberg dies at 65

Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg, a Chicago Cubs icon who started his major-league career in Philadelphia as a player and finished it with the Phillies as a manager, died on Monday after a battle with cancer, the Cubs and the National Baseball Hall of Fame announced. He was 65.

Sandberg played 16 seasons between 1981 and 1997, making 10 All-Star teams and winning nine Gold Gloves, seven Silver Sluggers and the 1984 National League MVP award. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005 and had his No. 23 retired by the Cubs in the same year.
