Bullpen melts down in Phillies extra innings loss to Marlins

The story should have been about Cristopher Sánchez. Then the bullpen imploded.

The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night by a final score of 6-5 in 11 innings The loss dropped the Phillies record to 92-65 but more importantly, the loss means the magic number to clinch a first-round bye remains at two.

The deciding run came in the 11th inning when Xavier Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Connor Norby and breaking a 5-5 tie. Despite getting a runner to third in the home half of the inning, the Phillies could not get the tying run across as Bryson Stott grounded into a 1-3 put out for the game’s final out.
