Andrew Painter up with Phillies before All-Star break? Don’t count on it

PHILADELPHIA — Top prospect Andrew Painter, in his first season back after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023, has tossed 28 1/3 innings in the minor leagues in preparation for his eventual arrival in the majors. The Phillies’ line has been “July-ish” when asked to provide a timeline for the young starting pitcher. But, based on recent comments from manager Rob Thomson, it seems like Painter wouldn’t be expected in Philadelphia until later in that month.

Thomson, speaking with reporters at Citizens Bank Park on Friday, discussed Painter’s workload so far and noted that the organization would give him a bit of a breather during Major League Baseball’s All-Star break.
