7 Phillies become free agents

Just two days after the Philadelphia Phillies were defeated by the Houston Astros in the World Series, seven players from the 2022 team became free agents.

Jon Heyman of The New York Post reported that Zach Eflin declined his half of a $15 million option for 2023, becoming a free agent. The Phillies have yet to confirm, but Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer confirmed the report, so there’s no reason to believe Eflin isn’t headed to the free-agent market.

Six other players were announced as free agents by the Major League Baseball Players Association:

  • RHP Kyle Gibson: The 35-year-old was relatively productive as a back-end starter for much of the season, but cost himself a good chunk of money by posting an unsightly 9.
