Phillies Trade Rumors: Writer proposes Rollins, Papelbon trade to Detroit

In today's Phillies trade rumors and news update, one CBS Sports baseball writer believes that the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers should come together on a massive trade that would send Jimmy Rollins and Jonathan Papelbon to Motown for a ton of prospects.

Here's Jon Heyman with his thoughts on why such a deal could work for the Phils:

The Phillies should want to remake their clubhouse and team, and a trade involving Rollins and Papelbon would be a nice jump start. With 100-mph-throwing Ken Giles coming on, the Phillies have a ready-made closer replacement. Their top prospect, shortstop J.P. Crawford, may be a year away, but the Phillies can fill in the gap until then, just like a regular rebuilding team would do.

By jump-starting the team's youth movement with such a trade, the Phillies could accelerate a potential rebuilding process by a couple of years depending on what the Tigers would be willing to part with.

Knowing how aggressive Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch can be, what the Tigers part with could very well mean a haul for the Phillies...hypothetically, of course.
