What Zach Werenski’s Contract Could Mean For Flyers’ Ivan Provorov

Following a rather quiet couple of months on the Restricted Free Agent front, one of the more prominent names has re-signed with their respective team. The Columbus Blue Jackets have inked defenseman Zach Werenski to a three-year, 15 million dollar deal with an Average Annual Value (AAV) of five million per season. Werenski posted 44 points (11 Goals, 33 Assists) in 82 games this past year and was selected one pick after the Philadelphia Flyers chose current-RFA Ivan Provorov, who could be affected by this agreement.

One of the reasons as to why General Manager Chuck Fletcher and Provorov’s camp haven’t come to terms on a potential contract sooner is that the RFA market was in stalemate as the Flyers, Blue Jackets, and Boston Bruins, with Charlie McAvoy, waited for one another to drop the shoe first on signing their Restricted Free Agent D-Men.
