Three Early Season Takeaways for the Philadelphia Flyers

Coming into the season, the Philadelphia Flyers looked like they were ready to take the next step forward after being eliminated in the first round of the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

General manager Ron Hextall made one of the biggest acquisitions of the offseason by inking forward James van Riemsdyk to a five year contract. van Riemsdyk had a career-high 36 goals in his contract season, and on paper was supposed to help the Flyers in secondary scoring.

That production hasn’t come to fruition though as van Riemsdyk, or JvR, has been sidelined for most of this season with a lower-body injury.
