When the Philadelphia Flyers signed Boyd Gordon a few weeks ago, it was pretty much as un-exciting a free agent signing as there can be. He had all of 4 points last year, and has bounced around bad NHL teams like Arizona and Edmonton the last few seasons.
Teams need to do these kind of signings, however, to fill out their depth. Every coach likes a veteran, faceoff guys as well, it seems. From our perspective, perhaps Claude Giroux had the most to gain from Boyd Gordon’s arrival. The team will finally have another solid right-handed faceoff man, hopefully alleviating some of Giroux’s tough penalty kill minutes last season.
