Flyers stay alive by beating Capitals, 2-1

This time, there was no Lou Nolan lecture, no flying bracelets, no futile power play.

Two nights after about 100 fans littered the ice with bracelets during a one-sided Washington victory - and caught flak from public-address announcer Nolan - the Flyers rebounded Wednesday and staved off elimination.

Getting goals from defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Andrew MacDonald, the Flyers outlasted the relentless Capitals, 2-1, at the reverberating Wells Fargo Center.

Washington has a three-games-to-one lead in the opening-round playoff series. The Caps, who have never swept a seven-game series in franchise history, will try to wrap things up Friday at the Verizon Center.
