Flyers place David Schlemko on unconditional waivers; will buyout contract

Yet another move has happened in this frantically busy offseason:

In a move that comes unexpectedly, but with little shock, the Flyers will buyout David Schlemko’s $2.1 million dollar contract instead of burying him in the AHL. The move means the Flyers will only see $600K of his cap hit added to their total cap space next year, and will save them $1.2 million in cap room.

Schlemko was never going to figure into the Flyers’ roster this season barring injury, and the move is smart from an economics perspective. It also potentially indicates that Chuck Fletcher is gearing up for one final move before the roster is set to materialize.
