Flyers injuries are piling up, giving Matvei Michkov a golden opportunity to step up

The Philadelphia Flyers expected more from Matvei Michkov in his second season. So far, he has hit the infamous sophomore slump.

Matvei Michkov was supposed to be one of the Philadelphia Flyers' top point producers in 2025-26, but through 26 games, he has just 16 points and eight goals. He's on pace for about 50 points and 25 goals, a regression from a rookie season when he ended the year with 26 goals and 63 points.

His gaudy numbers in 2024-25 landed him in fourth place for the Calder Trophy, and set the stage for a bigger role in 2025-26.
