Flyers' desire to win now reason for Ron Hextall's firing

When the Philadelphia Flyers fired general manager Ron Hextall on Monday, they cited a philosophical impasse as the catalyst.

Hextall believed his plan was the correct one to lead the team to postseason success, as the Flyers sought their first Stanley Cup since 1975 and first playoff round victory since 2012. But ownership had a different timeline, and methodology, in mind.

"He was very confident in his plan and his vision, and he wasn't going to waver from that plan," said David Scott, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Spectacor, in a Tuesday press conference following Hextall's firing.
