Danny Briere officially retires from the NHL after 17 seasons

He'll continue to live in South Jersey with his kids.

Danny Briere retired from hockey on Monday morning, ending a 17 year career in which he played 973 regular season NHL games. Six of those seasons were with the Philadelphia Flyers, and Briere will officially say goodbye with a press conference at the Skate Zone on Tuesday.

"After taking a few weeks to think about it, it's time to hang them up and spend a little more time at home with the family," Briere said in a press release. "I've been very, very fortunate to have a chance to play with some great organizations, but at this point the family becomes a priority.
