Trump cancels Eagles' White House visit over anthem protest dispute

The evening before the Super Bowl champion Eagles were to visit the White House, President Donald Trump released a statement: the trip is off.

“The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow,” the statement, released through the press secretary’s office, reads. “They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

In lieu of a visit, the statement says, Trump will hold a ceremony at the White House for fans, complete with the Marine band and an Army chorus.
