Nathan Gerry isn’t the only person of his (first) namesake leaving the Philadelphia Eagles to sign with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason. Nate Sudfeld is joining Gerry out on the West Coast, according to an official announcement.
It’s no surprise that Sudfeld isn’t returning to Philly. The Eagles (questionably) signed Joe Flacco to presumably be Jalen Hurts’ backup and gave him Sudfeld’s number (No. 7).
Still, this is a notable departure. Sudfeld had been with the Eagles ever since they signed him to be a developmental project back in September 2017. Earlier this offseason, Jeffrey Lurie lauded Sudfeld for being “unstoppable” (that seriously happened, I’m not making it up) during a meaningless Week 17 game in 2017.
