Eagles waive cornerback in order to make room for Brett Toth signing

The Philadelphia Eagles officially signed former Army offensive tackle Brett Toth, according to an announcement from the team. Toth’s signing was first reported by ESPN earlier today.

In a corresponding roster move, the Eagles waived undrafted rookie free agent cornerback Jamalcolm “Jay” Liggins.

Coming from NAIA level Dickinson State (North Dakota), Liggins was always clearly a long shot to make the Eagles’ 53-man roster. It’s at least a little surprising he got cut, though, because he didn’t seem to look all that bad in the team’s two preseason games. Some Eagles reporters — myself included — have been projecting Liggins to make Philadelphia’s 10-man practice squad.
