THE EAGLES made another move to solidify their defensive backfield Tuesday, signing corner Nolan Carroll to a one-year deal worth $2.36 million that can pay as much as $3 million, a source close to the situation said.
Carroll, 29, started 11 games for the Eagles in 2015, intercepting two passes, before suffering a season-ending broken fibula. He is expected to contend with Leodis McKelvin, signed as a free agent from Buffalo, for the starting job opposite Eric Rowe, the team's 2015 second-round draft pick. If Carroll doesn't start, he seems likely to play the nickel.
Carroll had hoped to cash in on the free-agent market after playing two years with the Birds, first as a dime quasi-linebacker in 2014, then as a surprise starter last year, but the fibula injury required surgery and Carroll still isn't quite 100 percent.
