Eagles great Wistert dies at 95

ONE OF the Eagles' last and best connections with their 1948 and '49 NFL championship teams was severed Saturday, when Al Wistert passed away at age 95.

Wistert's No. 70 was the first retired by the franchise. He was an All-Pro eight times in nine seasons, all played with the Eagles, as an offensive and defensive lineman.

Wistert, whose nickname was "Ox," remained healthy until very late in his life - in 2008, when he was named to the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, he actually made the trip from Grants Pass, Ore., for the induction ceremony.
