Doug Pederson’s philosophy on training camp practices comes from Andy Reid, meaning camp will look different than it did under Chip Kelly.
The biggest difference? There will be live tackling drills.
Kelly believed that the four preseason games provided sufficient time to tackle, and he wanted to avoid injury and take care of players’ bodies by not tackling to the ground during camp practices. Pederson said the team will hit as “often” as they can.
“I fully believe that you've got to practice in pads quite a bit, and I feel like it's important from a timing aspect in your run game,” Pederson said Wednesday.
