Sixers promote VP of basketball ops Elton Brand to GM role

The Philadelphia 76ers have hired former NBA player Elton Brand as general manager, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Brand will be elevated from vice president of basketball operations. He made a strong impression on ownership and coach Brett Brown in the process, beating out several inside and outside candidates.

Brand, who retired for a second time in 2016 following his second stint with Philadelphia, had also been serving as the general manager of the Delaware Blue Coats, the 76ers' G League affiliate.

Among those interviewed for the role were Utah Jazz assistant general manager Justin Zanik, Houston Rockets vice president Gersson Rosas and assistant Golden State Warriors GM Larry Harris.
