Sixers' Joel Embiid named NBA All-Star Game starter

BOSTON – 76ers center Joel Embiid was named a starter for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

TNT announced the starters and captain on Thursday on its NBA Tip-Off show. The all-star team rosters will be announced Jan. 25. The game will be on Feb. 18 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Embiid becomes the Sixers first all-star game starter since Allen Iverson in the 2011. The last time, the Sixers had a player compete in the annual event was Jrue Holiday in 2013.

Earlier in the day, Embiid said his focus was on facing the Boston Celtics Thursday night at TD Garden – not on becoming an all-star starter.
