Philadelphia 76ers: Maurice Cheeks’ greatness is recognized with Hall of Fame induction

One of the greatest floor generals in NBA history will be welcomed into the Hall of Fame today. Maurice Cheeks spent 11 years with the Philadelphia 76ers from 1978-89, averaging 12.2 points, 7.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game over that stretch. He made four All-Star appearances with the Sixers.

All-time, Cheeks ranks 11th in assists and seventh in steals, coupling his elite playmaking chops with high-end defense at the point guard spot. He was the poster child for the ‘true point guard’ archetype, centering his game around setting up others.

Playing next to Julius Erving and Moses Malone, Cheeks was the Sixers’ lead guard during their 1983 championship run.
