After an odd preseason run for the reigning No. 1 overall pick, Markelle Fultz will start next season on the bench for the Philadelphia 76ers. He has missed the last two preseason games with knee and shoulder soreness, and struggled to find consistent production when he did see the floor. Brett Brown cited that lack of playing time as his reasoning for bringing the 19-year-old on slowly.
While it’s not an ideal start to Fultz’s career, it makes sense. He was at his best this summer when handed the keys to the offense, and could be better off playing a larger role in fewer minutes early on.
