The Sixers have the third pick in the 2017 NBA draft due to their pick swap with the Kings. Sam Hinkie acquired that pick swap in a lopsided trade back in the summer of 2015, a fact that wasn’t lost on Sixers owner Joshua Harris, who thanked Hinkie at the lottery, per The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey:
Things clearly didn’t end on good terms between Harris and Hinkie given his midseason resignation and infamous letter announcing it. It is, however, a welcoming sign for those who were fervent fans of Hinkie’s plan that the franchise acknowledges his contributions to the team’s future.
