Joel Embiid’s contract extension has protections for certain injuries, is roughly 35 pages long, and gives the Sixers an option to cut ties with him early under specific circumstances, according to an ESPN report.

The Sixers could waive Embiid, who signed the new deal on Tuesday, if particular injuries cause him to miss significant time — 25 or more regular-season games or plays less than 1,650 minutes in a season — after each of the final four seasons of his five-year extension.

Those specific injury areas are his feet and back, ESPN reported.
