Sparkplug T.J. McConnell and Jeryd Bayless – who missed almost all of last season with a wrist injury – will compete for backup point guard minutes. Stop me if you’re heard this before, but there’s a frontcourt logjam. Nerlens Noel might not live here anymore, but with the additions of Johnson, there’s still Embiid, Simmons, Dario Saric, Robert Covington, Richaun Holmes and Jahlil Okafor fighting for playing time. Okafor, the former No. 3 pick in the draft, has been mentioned in trade rumors for a year since it was apparent he wasn’t a match on the court with Embiid.
