Wake Forest senior quarterback John Wolford ended his Deacons career with a victory in the Belk Bowl.
Allison Lee Isley/JournalIt was the end of October when former Wake Forest quarterback Riley Skinner texted John Wolford and told him to “stop breaking my records.” Wolford said that with a laugh, the friendly rivalry of Deacons quarterbacks of past and present hailing from rival schools in Jacksonville.
Wolford didn’t stop until the final drive of Wake Forest’s 55-52 win against Texas A&M in the Belk Bowl.
“That kid deserves every single accolade and bit of success that he’s experienced, because, you know, two years ago there weren’t a lot of big John Wolford fans,” Coach Dave Clawson of Wake Forest said.
