Washington S Su'a Cravens underwent what was expected to be a routine procedure on his right knee a little more than a month after his 22nd birthday, following an injury he sustained in the team's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
With rest and rehab, Cravens was expected to be ready to return to the team prior to Week 1. But that changed when Cravens informed the team that he was considering retiring. Shocking news on the outside, and yes, Washington was technically surprised to hear Cravens say he might be ready to give up football.
Team officials convinced Cravens to put off any immediate decisions, and a source indicated that — given Cravens' history with concussions — the team was careful not to talk him out of retirement, as some initial reports were suggesting, but rather to take more time to make his decision permanent.
