Before Saturday's game, interim head coach Terry Smith said on the field to expect Penn State football to shock the world. He said on the broadcast that he and his Nittany Lions (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) have nothing to lose at this point. The performance put together in the first half was just what Smith had in mind.

The interim head coach was fired up along the sidelines when Elliot Washington II returned a blocked field goal attempt for a touchdown. Linebacker Dominic DeLuca came up with the block at the Penn State 38-yard-line where kicker Drew Stevens was going in for a 66-yard field goal attempt.
