Saints beat out Falcons for services of Jonathan Williams

The New Orleans Saints had competition for the services of Jonathan Williams, the running back the team signed off of Denver's practice squad on Tuesday to fill the hole left by the injury to Daniel Lasco.

By coincidence, both the Saints and the rival Falcons wanted to sign Williams, and then it comes down to recruitment.

Saints head coach Sean Payton called and general manager Mickey Loomis was involved, but New Orleans had an ace up its sleeve in the person of running backs coach Joel Thomas, who coached Williams at Arkansas.

"We remember him very clearly from a year and a half ago when he came out of Arkansas," Payton said.
