Road-heavy Penn State women’s hockey team finds academic balance

For many, the conclusion of an academic semester is a whirlwind. Tests and projects abound, while the heavy-duty studying for final exams is underway. Add hundreds of miles of travel and hours of top physical competition to this, and it gives an idea of what Penn State’s hockey unit has been through.

The team, in the midst of a 12-game road trip spanning the homestretch of the semester, has resorted to practical means to get additional study time while on the road. Players complete schoolwork everywhere, including downtime on the team bus and inside team hotel rooms.

“There isn’t really a set time [for studying], so a lot of it just is kind of self-motivation to do it yourself,” senior Paige Jahnke said.
