None took the job having coached in a major bowl game. Frost will coach Central Florida in the Peach Bowl on Monday against Auburn.
This tidbit comes from examining NU’s coaching hires from its first paid coach, Frank Crawford — who passed through Lincoln between stints at Wisconsin and Texas in the 1890s — to Frost.
NU plucked three early ones — E.N. Robinson, A. Edwin Branch and Bummy Booth — from Eastern colleges soon after they graduated.
