Poor 3rd quarter sinks Penn State women's lacrosse in loss to No. 5 Maryland

The Nittany Lions faced No. 5 Maryland at 1 p.m. Thursday at Panzer Stadium.

In its Big Ten opener, Penn State wasn’t able to end its four-game losing streak. With Thursday’s 19-11 loss to the Terrapins, the blue and white fell to 2-6.

After an unsuccessful draw control, Erika Ho took an early penalty. On the advantage, the Terrapins’ Jordyn Lipkin tallied the opening goal.

Penn State built momentum after the goal, not allowing Maryland to find opportunities. Four minutes from the first goal, Elise Smigiel scored the equalizer — her seventh goal of the season.
