Penn State’s Haleigh Washington became the first-ever Nittany Lion to earn three straight academic All-America honors, as she was named to the CoSIDA second-team on Monday.
The women’s volleyball senior is the 200th academic All-American at Penn State, which ranks the university fourth among Division I schools all-time.
“I am so excited and honored to be the 200th selection,” Washington said in a written statement. “You come to this program and everyone says ‘Oh you here for the volleyball,’ but then you realize what a great academic program Penn State is, that’s awesome. And the fact we have that kind of representation from the entire community of athletes we have here at Penn State representing the academic side of the student-athlete is awesome.
