Penn State women's soccer opens strong with win over No. 9 West Virginia

With a large crowd on hand to watch Penn State's season opener, seating wasn't the only thing that could be described as tight.

The No. 4 Nittany Lions squeaked out a 1-0 victory over No. 9 West Virginia to open the 2018 campaign. Both sides played lock-down defense, especially in the middle of the field.

“The biggest thing for me tonight was our grit,” coach Erica Dambach said. “Our team dug deep, and I was really proud.”

Sophomore midfielder Shea Moyer scored the lone goal of the game in the 80th minute, putting a low shot past Mountaineer goalie Rylee Foster.
