The Nittany Lions (29-23, 14-9) fell to Illinois in a 9-0 defeat Sunday from Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park.
The Illini (34-20, 12-11) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first when a Allie Bauch was doubled in by Alyssa Gunther and Nicole Evans blasted a home run down the left field line.
The quick offensive start for the Illini chased Lions starter Marlaina Laubach (11-12) from the game. She was replaced by Madison Seifert to start the second inning.
