Following a 1-1 draw vs. Syracuse, the Nittany Lions returned to Jeffrey Field to face No. 23 Missouri State on Monday.
Penn State lost the game, 3-1, thanks to strong goalkeeping and stout defensive play from Missouri State.
Coach Jeff Cook ran a balanced 4-4-2 formation, with redshirt sophomore Fredrick Grundin back in net for the Nittany Lions.
Forward Kai Phillip put the pressure on the Bears early with the game’s first shot on goal only two minutes in, but goalkeeper Jonathan Kliewer was equal to the task and made the save.
With the blue and white putting pressure on early, midfielder Malick Daouda made a run and sent the ball flying off his left foot from beyond the box, past Kliewer and into the bottom left of the net, giving Penn State a 1-0 lead six minutes in.
