An offensive line staple of Penn State football’s resurgence came never heard his name called during the 2019 NFL Draft. Ryan Bates, who had a decent chance to be a late-round pick, went undrafted, but didn’t wait long to sign with a team. After the draft concluded, he signed with the in-state Philadelphia Eagles.
Bates had a great three-year stint with the Nittany Lions, and paired up with fellow lineman Connor McGovern to help open up big holes for talented backs Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders. A major plus toward his pro future came with the improvement of the run and pass-blocking over his three years.
