Jonathan Sutherland is competing for a starting spot at safety with Lamont Wade as they head into preseason practices. With Garrett Taylor slated to keep his starting position from 2018, as long as he holds off the other safeties that will certainly push him for his spot, there is just one open place for two very great players.
Wade and Sutherland should each play a great deal on defense this season, as it will be very hard for coach Pry to keep either of them off the field for very long. Last season Sutherland started one game while appearing in all 13.
