Only Courtney Brown’s 70 TFLs Until Penn State Football

Of all the great Penn Staters who played on the many ferocious defenses over the years, no one was better at making plays in the backfield than Courtney Brown.

Despite spending his freshman year as the starting right tackle on offense, Brown still managed to leave Penn State as the all-time leader in both tackles for loss (70) and sacks (33). Those eye-popping numbers don’t quite tell the story of just how disruptive Brown was off the edge for the Nittany Lions if you weren’t around to witness him in the late-90s. Known as the “Quiet Storm” for his laid back personality combined with a relentlessly physical nature, Brown was the guy no one wanted to see lined up across from him.
